Ah yes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Right. This March behaved more like a schizophrenic platypus. But the clocks are rolled ahead, there's more sun than snowflakes, and the sailing urge has hit with a vengeance. Here at the office we don't need a calendar to know it's April because the phone is ringing off the hook, a sure sign of Spring. And we love it.
This time of year it's all about getting it together for another enjoyable season on the water, and we're pleased to help provide the information you need/want to know – cruising, racing, whatever adds to your good times on the water.
Actually, if you call 48° North, you won't get a laundry list of options but a real person. Well, most of the time. The spring sailing bug comes through the windows with the sunshine, so you might get an answering machine. Our only goal is to put out a good mag, so if we're out of the office, rest assured we're off doing critical research to give you the best mag we can.
BTW - if you have an announcement for the Calendar, Lowtide or Race section, get it to us (Karen) by the 10th of the month preceding the next mag; i.e. April 10th for the May mag. So, think ahead. People can't play if they don't know when the game is, where it is, and when it starts. See you on the water!

Out and about:

Right: Boatswains Mate Third Class Steven Knappe (left) and Petty Officer MST1 Andrew Wall (right) of Sector Seattle WWM boarded the offices of 48° North to present an official Coast Guard flag to Associate Editor Karen Higginson and Editor Richard Hazelton in appreciation of hosting the meeting of Sector 5 Seattle and Yacht Club Race Committee Chairpersons. Now that's a burgee! It looks great on our wall, thank you!

Below: Brian Watkins (Declaration of Independence) accepts what is getting to be his yearly award for being #1 in the 48° North/Harken Top 25 Boats, this time for the 2006 season. Congratulations.
