Best of Both Worlds - Important Boat Show Announcement As one who was sitting in the Kingdom watching the very first Seahawk game almost 30 years ago, I am looking forward to a rare chance to see their post season exploits go farther than ever. However, their success could conflict with our beloved boat show dates so some shuffling may need to be done. Not an easy task for the NMTA but I know they'll pull it off and we can have the best of boat worlds. They have released the following. SEATTLE - Organizers of the West Coast's Largest Boat Show may be forced to move the event one week earlier because the National Football League's (NFL) Seattle Seahawks could be hosting playoff games during the scheduled January 13-22 dates. In the event the Seahawks win their division and finish the regular season with the first or second best record in the NFC conference, then the Seattle Boat Show, including the Lake Union Boats Afloat Show would run January 6-14. The Seahawks (8-2) currently have the best record in the conference and are in first place in the NFC West division. "The Seahawks are having a terrific season," said Michael Campbell, president of the Northwest Marine Trade Association (NMTA) - producers of the Seattle Boat Show. "This is great for the city of Seattle and we're supporting them in every way. Moving the show presents a few logistical challenges but we'll make it work. We have shared a facility with the Seahawks for the past 29 years and we love this team." The Seattle Boat Show has been held at Qwest Field Event Center since it opened in 2000. The Seahawks have priority at Qwest Field and its adjoining Event Center. Qwest Field, formerly named Seahawks Stadium, was built for the city's professional football team in 1999. Prior to that year, the Seahawks and the Seattle Boat Show shared the Kingdome since 1977. As the NFL playoff scenario unfolds in the coming weeks, organizers will closely watch the standings to determine when the show will open. "As soon as we know how the Seahawks will finish the regular season, we'll let our exhibitors, partners and attendees know when the doors will open," said George Harris, NMTA boat show director. "We're scheduled to have our biggest and best boat show ever in 2006, and one way or the other we will." |
