The Alcyone, a 65' topmast schooner, offers learning to sail adventures for adults, youth and families. The Alcyone sails with 6-student crew and the captains/owners Leslie McNish and John Flanagan. Departing from Port Townsend, Washington weeklong trips are spent sailing in the San Juan Islands. On longer trips Alcyone heads up to Desolation Sound or out to the West Coast of Vancouver Island to Barkley Sound. Alcyone's curriculum includes: sail theory, navigation, marlinspike seamanship, chart reading, standing watches and small boat handling. Family and full boat adult and youth trips are booked by February and the dates for open-bunk trips, youth (12-18) in the summer and adults in the spring and fall, are set after that.

Anacortes Yacht Charters offers two different instructional opportunities: "Introduction to Sailing/Cruising" is a three day, on the water, course. It is designed to provide "hands on" training and skill building for the novice or rusty sailor. This can be taken on either a twin engine motor yacht or a sailing vessel. The course, complete with a Home Study Package sent in advance of the class, is $525/person for power and $425 for sail. "Cruise and Learn" is a custom training program designed to build proficient boating skills as part of a charter vacation. An instructor is aboard the yacht providing private instruction for as long as needed. When the captain and crew are confident, they can continue their cruise alone. Costs include the charter rate plus instructor fees of $250/day and insurance.

In the business for over 20 years, Bellhaven offers nationally and internationally accredited hands-on sailing instruction on newer 30'-42' sailboats. Courses range from Basic Keelboat to Advanced Coastal Cruising and are offered in two formats: two-day weekenders and six-day live-aboard Cruise-n-Learns. The Center for Wooden Boats offers several programs to improve your sailing skills. For beginners we recommend Sail NOW!, The SailNOW! program offers adults a six-week (eight lessons) basic saling course to learn seamanship and the craft of sail in a variety of classic boats. After successful completion of the course, you are welcome to sail and rent boats year round in the CWB Livery. Each course starts with a Saturday Shore School. HANDS ON lessons are then available Saturday and Sunday year-round, plus weekdays from April-August. Each lesson is two hours on-the-water with an instructor for every two students. For those whose sailing skill need some refreshing: One-on-One sailing is offered for people who know how to sail, but need some practice, particularly with classic boats.The classes are available on weekday afternoons.

Footloose Sailing Association offers sailing opportunities to individuals with disabilities on adapted boats. Participants can haul on the lines, take the tiller, or just enjoy being on the water. American Sailing Association.and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors offer summer sailing lessons. Motivated individuals with disabilities can become skippers, racers and even boat owners. Sail Sandpoint hosts three Footloose races, the Center for Wooden Boats hosts our annual Sail-Away-Challenge on Lake Union, and Camp Access provides sailing opportunities on our adapted boats to disabled children and young teens. We offer transfer assistance by trained volunteers. Our organization was founded by individuals with disabilities for others with disabilities, and we serve as directors, skippers, instructors, racers and racing coaches. The Maryland School of Sailing will conduct two 8 day cruises in the Pacific Northwest July 30-August 6 and August 9-16. These classes are taught at Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club on Lake Washington. Optimist dinghies, sailboats specifically designed for children, are used for ages 8-13. They are simple to learn and operate — just one sail and line. 420's, two person 14' boats with main jib, allow 11-18 year olds to master the basics and develop teamwork.Classes are open to all youths 8-18 years old who have demonstrated swimming ability. Membership in Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club is not required. Beginning classes focus on the fundamentals of sailing, basic dinghy handling and safety. Neptune is a not-for-profit, member-owned club providing unlimited day sailing opportunities for a $675 Initiation fee and annual dues of $440and covers six hours of classroom lessons, plus a minimum of 15 hours of on-the-water sailing instruction by Coast Guard licensed and American Sailing Association certified instructors.  Tests certify members for competency with the club rating of "Skipper". Renton Sailing Club offers low-cost sailing to the public on the southern end of Lake Washington. Activities for both beginning and experienced sailors include classes, races and cruises. A 45' traditionally rigged gaff cutter, Bryony was built in Port Townsend by the Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building. Our adult Sail Training programs start at the beginning, "this is a line, this is how you make if off." We quickly move into weather, sail theory, safety and safety drills, coastal navigation, and more. The five day course sails from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Since 1974, Seattle Sailing Club turns novices into confident capable sailors. We are an American Sailing Association ‘Gold Star' rated school located on Puget Sound in Shilshole Bay Marina. The curriculum is Basic Keelboat 101 – "crew", Basic Coastal 103 – "skipper" and Bareboat Charter 104 – "worldwide charterer". Lessons are always available to both non-members and members. Our instructors are ASA certified and licensed. Our club membership offers you FREE day sailing with low monthly dues and a reduced rate on your sailing lessons. The Club has two levels. The 22' to 25' boats with J/24s, C&C, Merit 25s and a Cal in the fleet. The 26' to 36' boats have J/boats, C&C, Hunter and more in the cruising range.

Seattle Yacht Club offers sailing instruction for children, ages 7-18, and adults, of all abilities. All instruction is done by US Sailing certified instructors who hold CPR and First Aid certification. Some of the skills covered in the courses include: parts of the boat, rigging, points of sail, rules of the road, steering, sail trim, knot tying, docking, backwards and rudderless sailing, capsize recovery, boat safety, person over-board recovery, trapeze sailing, spinnaker sailing, and racing. Adult courses are offered through the spring and summer, and youth sailing camps begin June 14, with a special Racing Camp from July 5-16. Additionally we have Junior Racing. All intermediate and advanced sailors, ages 8-18, are welcome. Seattle Yacht Club's fleet consists of Optimists, Bytes, Lasers, 420's, and 29er skiffs. Membership at SYC is not required.

Tacoma Women's Sailing Association holds beginning and advanced beginning sailing classes on April 13th. The six sessions includes info on nautical terms, parts of a boat, rigging, sails, points of sail, maneuvers, sail handling, man-overboard drills, hypothermia, and rules of safe boating. Boats sail out of Tacoma and Gig Harbor. Fee is $100 and includes TWSA annual membership.

Nancy Erley led two voyages from Seattle around the world aboard her Orca 38 sailboat Tethys. Founder of Tethys Offshore Sailing for Women, Nancy teaches beginning sailing as well as the captaining skills to take a small boat across an ocean. Learning onboard Tethys is skill intensive and limited to three women each cruise. Crew members learn by doing in a nurturing and challenging environment. Nancy's no failure participatory approach builds skills using a high detail, low risk curriculum. Nancy holds her 100-ton Master's license, ISPA (International Sail and Power Association) Offshore Instructor certification, and scuba and ham radio licenses. Nancy also offers private instruction (1-2 people) and voyaging consultation.

The Wooden Boat Foundation will teach you to sail up wind in just a week! Taught by US Sailing certified instructors, we offer beginner-advanced courses for 8 to adult in El Toros, Lasers, and Cal 20's. Sail Training is also offered on tall ships aboard Bryony, a classic 45' Cutter (courses from 5-7 days and covers all aspects of boat handling), Martha, a 68' staysail schooner and and Alcyone, a 65' topmast schooner (from 6 to 14 day live aboard courses sailing in the San Juan and Gulf Islands, and Desolation Sound). Charters are available on Bryony and the cutter Let ‘er Buck. Customized education programs are also available with our Adventures at Sea Maritime Expeditions aboard 26' Longboats.
